World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day is an international health observance celebrated annually on September 28th. This day serves as a reminder of the global efforts to combat and eliminate rabies, a preventable viral disease that affects both animals and humans. World Rabies Day was first launched in 2007 by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), an organization committed to the elimination of human deaths from rabies by 2030. The date, September 28th, was chosen to commemorate the death of Louis Pasteur, the French chemist, and microbiologist who developed the first successful rabies vaccine in 1885. The observance seeks to honor Pasteur’s contributions to rabies prevention and encourage continued advancements in rabies control and eradication.
This World Rabies Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Veterinary Doctors Association (JKVDA) aims to raise awareness about rabies prevention, promote vaccination campaigns, educate communities, and foster collaboration among various stakeholders to eliminate this deadly disease.
